Rehabilitation Centre Kitzbühel Trains Students of Hannover Medical School Elective “Practice of Inpatient Rehabilitation Medicine”

For the second time in consecutive years, the Rehabilitation Centre Kitzbühel in co-operation with Hannover Medical School offered the elective “Practice of Inpatient Rehabilitation Medicine” for students from the 3rd academic year on.

After the successful premiere last year, this year the course at the Rehabilitation Centre Kitzbühel, one of VAMED’s 15 rehab facilities overall, was once more fully booked. In the proven manner, it was managed by Prim. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Michael Fischer, the Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Centre Kitzbühel, and Prof. Dr. Matthias Fink, from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Hannover Medical School.

As a complement to the interdisciplinary subject of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine and Naturopathy, the curriculum for the elective comprised the basics of inpatient rehabilitative medicine after trauma surgery, orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery. In 20 course units, input was given through lectures, bedside teaching, practical exercises and self-experience opportunities. The elective closed with a 45-minute test.

It was a big concern to Prim. Dr. Michael Fischer to familiarize the future physicians with the rehabilitative therapies according to the latest research insights in a practical and evidence-based manner. As part of the course, the students could perform the focus topics of gait analysis, isokinetics and performance diagnostics in sports medicine under medical supervision for themselves and thus were able to get acquainted with the existing modern technologies and methods.

The theoretical and practical teaching ensured that the students were given a profound insight into the organization and the multimodal treatment concept of inpatient rehabilitation medicine.

All students completed the course successfully. The students were particularly impressed by the state-of-the-art therapies of the Rehabilitation Centre. Dr. Michael Fischer was pleased that the practice-oriented elective using the example of the Rehabilitation Centre was received so well once more and thanked the students for their active participation and the team of the Rehabilitation Centre for the support and the success.
