US experts confirm international recognition for the Gmundnerberg Center and the Montafon Clinic by awarding the Quality Certificate of the Joint Commission International (JCI)

Vienna / Altmünster / Schruns (OTS) – VAMED's Austrian rehabilitation centers maintain their leading position at international level. In recent weeks, experts of the Joint Commission International (JCI) from the US have checked VAMED’s rehabilihation clinics the Neurological Therapy Center Gmundnerberg (Upper Austria) and the Rehabilitation Clinic Montafon (Vorarlberg) based on about 1,000 criteria, and confirmed their certification as “World Hospitals”. Thus, the two facilities are once more ranked among the around 800 clinics all over the world that were accepted by the Joint Commission as leading institutions at international level.

Apart from the rehabilitation clinics Gmundnerberg and Montafon, only three other Austrian healthcare facilities meet the strict “World Hospitals” criteria, including the Neurological Therapy Center Kapfenberg (NTK), also operated by VAMED. Patients can find out online at http://www.worldhospitalsearch.org/ what constitutes a top medical facility.

Gottfried Koos, Board of Management of VAMED AG: “Our domestic rehabilitation centers are among the leading institutions worldwide. This was confirmed once more by the Joint Commission International. The fact that we are included on the list of leading “World Hospitals” assures our local patients that they are in good hands, and brings more and more international patients, looking for quality rehabilitation, to us in Austria.”

Extremely strict criteria for “World Hospitals” in more than 100 countries

The Joint Commission International (JCI), headquartered in Chicago, is the leading international center of excellence for quality and patient safety in healthcare. JCI provides voluntary accreditation programs for hospitals, clinical laboratories, long-term care, domestic care, medical transportation, outpatient care, primary health care, and academic teaching hospitals. By accreditation and certification, JCI monitors and supports facilities in over 100 countries. Since its establishment in 1994, the JCI accreditation is recognized as a badge of quality.

Among other things, the quality and continuity of medical care are tested, taking into account the patients’ rights and ensuring ongoing employee training. The assessment is valid for three years, but the quality standards are reviewed annually by JCI inspectors.
