After nearly three years of construction work, on Tuesday, November 29th, VAMED ceremoniously handed over the completely modernized multi-story accommodation to Charité. The successful renovation of the building in time and on budget concludes the biggest construction project of the merged Charité. Already in December, the first ward is scheduled to move back from the campus clinic temporarily erected in 2013 into the new accommodation. The relocation of all wards is expected to be completed in March of next year.

When staying in the new accommodation, the patients enjoy higher comfort in mainly single and double rooms. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom; the generous windows let in lots of daylight, and multimedia devices at each bed complement the modern amenities. Simplification of the registration process in the future is ensured by a central reception desk on the ground floor.

Comments on the Modernized Multi-Story Accommodation

Prof. Dr. Karl Max Einhäupl, CEO of Charité (on the left):

“Charité has demonstrated its excellence once more. This time not in the field research, but as the principal of the largest construction project in its history. We are delighted that in the future we will be able to take care of our patients in this highly modern and attractive environment.”

Michael Müller, Governing Mayor of Berlin (third from left):

“With the delivery of the keys for the completely rebuilt accommodation, we have reached another milestone on the way to implementation of the master plan for the modernization of Charité. Charité plays a central role in providing healthcare for the people in our growing capital and metropolitan area. It is a beacon of science and one of the largest public employers of our city, and it remains an important teaching location for young medical professionals. I wish the patients a speedy recovery, and all those who will be using these newly designed premises a lot of joy in the new workplaces – in the medical service, in care, in research and in teaching.”

Sandra Scheeres, Senator for Science and chairwoman of Charité (second from the right):

“The accommodation is the visible calling card of Charité Mitte. The house radiates into the city. With the complete renovation, the high-rise not only shines in a new light, it also provides much better conditions for patients and for doctors and nurses. This huge construction work was successfully completed in time and on budget as planned. This is the result of hard work of all involved, and of accurate controlling. Charité not only does first-class research and healing, Charité can build as well. Charité has taken a strong development in recent years. Never before has it been so important for the city, and never has it held such international significance.”

Christian Kilz, construction manager of Charité:

“We could achieve this result only by all project participants, from the Board of Charité through its own employees up to the general contractor, always keeping implementation of cost and time schedule firmly in mind and paying stringent attention to compliance with the objectives.”

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Frei, Medical Director of the Charité:

“For the employees of Charité, the working conditions improve significantly with the relocation to the accommodation. Apart from new care support points, all stations are equipped with the latest technology.”
